Rhonda was born in Oshawa and began her figure skating career with the club in Port Hope in 1980. After moving to Whitby in 1982, she skated with the Whitby Figure Skating Club, in the Precision Skating Division, with the Pre-Novice, Novice, and Senior teams until 1992.

Among her team skating accomplishments were 2 Gold Medals and 2 Silver Medals at the Novice Canadian Championships, 3 Golds and 1 Silver at the Senior Canadian Championships, and Gold and Silver Medals at International Championships in Sweden and Finland.
