Gil Nieuwendyk was born in Ajax in 1961 and attended Dennis O’Conner and Henry Street High Schools.

In 1980, Gil produced 67 points in the regular season and 32 points in the playoffs leading to the CBC Builders Minto Cup championship. His additional achievements include:

  • Rookie of the Year honours in the Major Series (1983)
  • Scoring Leader in the Major Series (1983 and 1985)
  • Mann Cup Championships in 1985, 1987, and 1988 (with the Brooklin Redmen)
