Whitby’s Erin McLean started playing T-Ball at age 4 and progressed through house league, select and rep ball within various Whitby organizations. As a member of the Brampton Blazers, Erin was part of the 2001 Canadian National championship team. She was selected to the Junior National Team in 2002 and represented Canada at the Junior World Championships in Nanjing, China where Canada placed 5th.

She attended Simon Fraser University on a softball scholarship from 2003 to 2007 and was a member of SFU’s NAIA National Softball Championship team in 2005. At SFU, she rose to become the team captain and won the Bill Devries Award in 2007 for combined excellence as both a student and an athlete.

During her four seasons at Simon Fraser she was the team’s third baseman and was the varsity softball captain in 2007 when the team had a 24-5 record. In 2007, she led NAIA Division 1 in hits per game (1.96) and batting average (.558). Erin was twice named the team’s most inspirational player.

Erin played at the Junior Women’s Softball World Championships in 2004 and at the World Women’s Softball Championships in 2006. She played on the Canadian National Team for five seasons as the starting third baseman, competing in the Pan American Games, World Championships, the Australian Cup, various Canada Cup Tournaments and notably the World University Games, where Canada won its first international gold medal in softball.

Erin competed in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing China where Canada finished in fourth place. The Town of Whitby recognized Erin for her Olympic participation at a ceremony on October 6, 2008.

While she has formally retired from softball, she gives back to the game by offering lessons and speaking to youth organizations whenever possible.
