Ed Derks was born in Oshawa in 1961, attended Henry Street High School and Centennial College.
As a head coach in box lacrosse, his accomplishments include:
- Tyke A Provincial Champions in 1996
- Novice A Provincial Finalists in 1998
- Peewee B Provincial Champions in 1999
- Peewee A Provincial Champions in 2000
- Bantam A Provincial Finalists in 2002
- Midget A Provincial Finalist in 2003 as Assistant Coach
- Midget A Provincial Champions at the 2004 Summer Games
As a field lacrosse head coach, Ed guided his teams to these successes:
- Novice B Provincial Championship in 1997
- Novice A Provincial Championship in 1998
- Peewee B Provincial Championship in 1999
- Peewee A Provincial Championship in 2000
- Bantam B Provincial Championship in 2001
- Bantam A Provincial Championship in 2002
- Midget B Provincial Championship in 2003
- Midget A Provincial Finalist in 2004.
Ed also acted as the technical director for Whitby minor lacrosse in 2002-2003 and served as an Assistant Coach, Assistant General Manager and General Manager for Junior A prior to retiring from lacrosse in 2009.
