Don was born in Oshawa in 1933 where he attended public school and high school.

His early achievements included an Intercity School Softball Championship in 1947, and OMSA Eastern titles in 1948 and 1951. He also played lacrosse in the Park League and won league Championships in 1949 and 195. Don then joined the Brooklin Lacrosse Team, playing for five years during which his teams won the Intermediate “B” and “C” Championships. In 1956 and 1957 he played for the Whitby Merchants, winning the Intermediate “C” Championship in 1956 and then joined Heron Park in Scarboro for the 1958 season. Craggs returned to the Brooklin Redmen in 1959 with the team winning the Indeterminate “A” Championship. Brooklin joined the Senior Tier in 1960 and Don played for that team for 7 years, competing for the Mann Cup three times.

In 1968, the Redmen were rebuilt and Craggs played with the Mann Cup Champions in 1968 and 1969. After playing a few games with the newly formed professional team in Detroit, Don returned to the Brooklin team and played until 1973.

In 1995, Don retired after working for CN Express, General Motors, TPT Transport and McMillan Bathurst. He was inducted into the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame in St. Catherines in 1997.
