Catherine was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland and moved to Ajax in 1978. She joined the Whitby Figure Skating Club in 1986 and was a member of 3 Canadian Championship teams over the next 6 years, including a Junior title with the Ice Crystals and Senior titles with the Ice Fyre in 1989 and 1990.
