Jamie Allison
Athlete ~ Hockey

Raised in Whitby, Jamie Allison reluctantly began playing hockey at the age of five but soon showed that he had a natural gift for the game.

He played his minor hockey in Whitby winning a Bantam Provincial Championship. At the age of 15, he was recruited to play for the Waterloo Siskins Junior B Hockey Club that went on to win the league championship that year. From there, Jamie was drafted in the first round by the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). After his first season, he was traded to the Detroit Jr. Red Wings where he played for the next three years. As Captain of the Junior Red Wings in 1994-95, he led his team to the OHL Championship and to the Memorial Cup final. Jamie also played on the Ontario team that won the Gold medal at the 1991-92 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

Jamie was drafted 44th overall by the Calgary Flames in the second round of the NHL Entry Draft in 1993 and played 10 seasons in the NHL for Calgary Flames, Chicago Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Nashville Predators, and Florida Panthers. During his career as an NHL defenceman, he played in 372 games, scoring 7 goals and adding 23 assists with 639 penalty minutes.

Jamie returned to his love of hockey after retiring as a player, coaching the OHL's Brampton Battalion for three seasons, helping guide the team to the OHL final in just his second year.
