Wilmot was born in Pickering Township in 1926 and received his education at Cherrywood Public, Pickering Continuation and Whitby High Schools. His sports career included Track and Field at Whitby High and hockey, playing with the Whitby Juvenile Ontario Champs in 1944, the Whitby Red Wing Ontario Champs in 1946, Whitby Intermediate, and the two-time Pickering Rural Ontario Champion, the Intermediate West Hill, Markham Millionaires and Stouffville Clippers. Wilmot’s working career included 25 years at dairy farming, 7 years as a manager of Whitevale Golf Club and working at Spring Lakes Golf Club in Stouffville until his retirement. Wimot married his wife Joan, a Whitby girl in 1949 and they raised 3 sons.
