Recognizing the contributions to athletic excellence does more than just instill pride in th e inductee... Athletics provide people with the chance to meet their neighbours and fellow community members while sports provide young people with an outlet to express themselves and raise their self-esteem. The positive role models created encourage and reward healthy-living and empower youth to get involved in sports, and strive for excellence as well.
The Hall of Fame will generate attention to the Town of Whitby, enhancing tourism; Recognizing local talent gives people who live, have lived or work in Whitby something to be proud of.
Participation in our Corporate Partners Program is always welcome as well as advertising in our Gala Program and/or contributions to our live and silent auction. The Whitby Sports Hall of Fame was founded in 1997 to recognize and honour the names and deeds of individuals or teams whose athletic prowess and contribution to sports has brought fame to this community and to themselves. It is a non-profit, community organization, guided by a Board of Directors whose primary function is to ensure that the objectives of the mandate are carried out. All members volunteer their time to the organization. All sports and athletic activities are celebrated. Currently, the Hall of Fame is in its infancy, but Whitby has a long list of successful athletes and we are sure this tradition will carry on for generations to come.
