Jack was born in Oshawa in 1927.  He moved with his family to Kinsale in 1931 and received his formal education from Kinsale Public, Brooklin Continuation, and Ryerson Technical schools.

Jack learned his hockey skills outdoors on frozen ponds in the local area and was invited to try out for the Junior C Whitby Red Wing team.  He did make the team, and in turn played for the championship club of 1945-46. He later played for Intermediate teams in Brooklin, Brougham and Claremont.

After graduating from Ryerson Technical with a mechanic’s license, Jack began working for his father’s farm implement business which later became a dealership for General Motors. He eventually joined Nurse Motors in Whitby as a service advisor followed by employment with Williamson Pontiac Buick in Uxbridge as a service manager until his retirement in 1986.

Jack’s leisure time included several years with the County Town Singers as well as involvement with the Greenwood Scout and Cub Movement.
