Jim Hinkson

Jim was born in Oshawa in 1943.  He gained his early education from several public schools in Oshawa before entering high school at Central Collegiate.  He graduated from Waterloo Lutheran University in 1968 with a B.A. in Psychology and from the University of Western Ontario in 1971 with a diploma of education.

His lacrosse career began at the age of 19 – Jim played lacrosse for 12 years and participated in 10 Championship series.  His accomplishments include:

  • 2 Junior A Canadian Championships with the Oshawa Green Gaels
  • Mann Cup Finalist with the Brooklin Redmen in 1965
  • OLA Senior B Eastern Ontario Finalist with the Oshawa Lasco Steelers in 1963-64
  • National Lacrosse Association Finalists at the Detroit Olympic in 1968
  • Provincial Lacrosse Association Championship with the Peterborough Lakers (1969)
  • Playing-coach with the Sr. Canadian Champion Windsor Clippers in 1970
  • Playing-coach with the Sr. Canadian Champion Windsor Warlocks in 1971 and 1973
  • National Lacrosse League Finalist with the Philadelphia Wings in 1974
  • Playing for Canada at the World Field Lacrosse Championships in Australia in 1974

Jim also had a very successful coaching career from 1965 through 2005, accumulating the following achievements:

  • Junior B Canadian Finalist with the Whitby Lasco Steelers in 1965
  • coaching the Philadelphia Wings of the NLL in 1975
  • Junior A Finalist with the Whitby CBC Builders in 1978
  • Junior A Minto Cup Championship with Whitby CBC Builders in 1980
  • All Ontario Whitby Midget“B Finalists in 1998

Jim also coached the St. Catharines Majors of the Ontario Lacrosse Association in 1999, the Toronto Junior A Beaches team in 2000-2001 (winning Coach of the Year Honours), the New Jersey Storm of the NLL in 2002, the Vancouver Ravens of the NLL in 2003, the St. Catharines Athletics Major Lacrosse team in 2004, and the Akwesasne Thunder in 2005.

He is also an accomplished author of 5 books on lacrosse, the latest being completed in 2003.
